Services Available
1. Acupuncture is a technique using sterile, disposable stainless steel needles inserted at specific points in the body to cause a positive response in order to balance or correct various medical conditions. During the first 24-48 hours, a temporary aggravation of symptoms may occur (rebound phenomenon). Following the treatment, it is possible to experience temporary euphoria or lightheadedness. Benefits include improvement of certain medical conditions without the use of additional medications as well as balancing of energies resulting in the prevention of illness and the maintenance of good health.
2. Electro-Acupuncture is the therapeutic use of a weak, electric micro current (similar to a TENS treatment) used to stimulate acupuncture points.
3. Auriculotherapy is a type of acupuncture that focuses on the microsystem of the ear. Specialized needles and/or seed beads are used. Auriculotherapy may be used as a sole modality or as an adjunct, reinforcing treatment. Battlefield acupuncture is a progressive form of auriculotherapy developed in the United States by Dr. Richard Niemtzow. It is a potent technique for treating pain syndromes and utilizes 3-5 indwelling, specialized ear needles.
4. Chinese Scalp Acupuncture (CSA) is a modern subspecialty developed approximately 30 years ago, reserved for patients with severe pain and neurologic disorders. This is an advanced technique requiring additional training.
5. Moxibustion involves the application of indirect heat from burning a smokeless formulation of the herb, Artemesia vulgaris, also known as “Mugwort” over acupuncture points.
6. Cupping involves localized suction achieved by heating glass cups in order to enhance blood circulation. Expect local skin redness and bruising.
7. Scar Deactivation involves surrounding the symptomatic scar tissue with superficial acupuncture needles to improve symptoms and restore energetic tissue vitality. In extreme cases, injection of a local anesthetic into symptomatic scar tissue may be indicated.
8. Gua Sha involves scraping of the skin with a smooth edged instrument such as a porcelain spoon or coin to stimulate blood flow to the surface. Increased circulation to the affected area allows muscle relaxation which aids in the improvement of symptoms.
9. Plum Blossom Tapping involves the use of a disposable instrument that applies multiple, superficial needle pricks to the affected area to encourage slight bleeding. This technique may be combined with cupping to further enhance blood circulation as part of the healing process.
